Do I need to seal my granite countertop?

It doesn’t need to be sealed regularly.

Granite is generally water-resistant and doesn’t require sealing. However, there are certain rare types of this natural stone that are porous and would be safer to seal. Ideally this should be done twice a year, but ask your granite countertop provider to suggest the best possible methods to maintain the worktop.

How do I know that my countertop requires sealing?

Try the water test to find out if you need to seal your granite countertop.

The best way to find out if your kitchen countertop needs to be sealed is to pour a little water on a small area. If the surface absorbs it, it’s a porous slab and will need to be sealed. However, if the water sits on the surface for a long time, there’s no need.

Can my granite countertop be scratched?

It is scratch resistant but not completely scratch proof.

Like marble, another natural stone, granite can sustain scratches, although it’s highly scratch resistant. So, always use chopping boards instead of cutting directly on the surface.

What is a granite colour chart?

It’s a small booklet with sample tiles from bigger slabs.

When you visit a granite countertop showroom, you will be handed a small booklet. The small pieces of stone in these booklets comprise the granite colour chart. They can be used to compare different patterns and colours.

Can my granite countertop be repaired if damaged?

Yes. Damaged granite countertops can be repaired.
